West Conn. Defeats Salem State

DANBURY, CT – The Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team earned a 17-3 victory over Salem State University on a soggy Monday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex. Junior attacker Brooke Baldelli(New Fairfield, CT) paced the Colonials with a game-high four goals and two assists, while senior middie Lauren Bradshaw (Bethel, CT) posted a scoring strike and dished out a game-high five helpers.

With the victory, the Colonials have now won six of their last seven contests, improving to 12-4 overall. The Vikings dropped to 3-12.

Amanda Bradley (Peabody, Mass.), Tara McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) and Marissa McClellan (Saugus, Mass.) scored goals for Salem State.  

The hosts dominated the game, outshooting the visitors by a whopping 48-13 margin. They also had a flurry of free position attempts, finishing 4-of-14, while coming atop the draw control column, 15-6.

Other key contributors for WestConn included rookie Brianna Pota (East Meadow, NY) – who finished with a hat trick – and sophomore Caroline Galligan (Marshfield, MA) – who tacked on a pair of goals and one assist.

Colonial sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Sawicki (Westbury, NY) upped her record to 12-4 as she combined with freshman Madison McColl (Rutland, MA) to record three saves. Netminder Gianna DeNisco (Peabody, Mass.) fell to 3-11 overall as she split time with Trisha MacLean (Medford, Mass.). Together they notched 14 saves for the Vikings.
