Gordon Beats Salem State 17-12

WENHAM, Mass. -- Salem State received a pair of hat tricks from Shayla Inglis (Lowell, Mass.) and Amanda Bradley (Peabody, Mass.), but Gordon's Olivia McCarrick tallied eight points (four goals and four assists) to lead Gordon to a 17-12 victory over Salem State on Thursday evening. The Fighting Scots go to 4-11 on the year while the Vikings slip to 3-10.

Suzanne Stefanik (Dalton, Mass.) and Taylor Lund (Woburn, Mass.) added two goals each for Salem State. Brenna Otte and Greta Moore netted a hat trick each, while Emma Hyrzan and Molly Guthrieeach totaled two goals and one assist each on the night for Gordon.

Hryzan and Otte scored within 50 seconds of each other to give Gordon a two-goal lead to begin the game. After a five minute scoring drought for both sides, Salem's Stefanik put her squad on the board to cut the lead to one.  Gordon outscored the Vikings, 7-3 for the remainder of the period capped off by McCarrick finding the back of the net to give the Fighting Scots a 9-4 lead at the 7:38 mark which turned out to be the final tally of the half for both sides.

Scoring four goals in just over four minutes, Salem State came out of the half with vengeance to bring the Vikings within one. Although the Vikings continued to fight back, the Scots kept them at bay, holding firm to a slight lead until the Scots busted it open with just over four minutes left as the blue and white closed out the contest with four unanswered goals to secure the 17-12 victory over their North Shore rivals.

Gianna DeNisco (Peabody, Mass.) made 15 saves in the loss while Annabel Christenson (Scituate, Mass.) stopped two shots in the win.
