Leopards Top Vikings 22-9

BOSTON, Mass. –  Freshman Sarah Galan (Colchester, Conn.) broke the single-game points record with 14 overall, leading the Wentworthwomen's lacrosse team to a 22-9 victory over Salem State University on Wednesday evening at Sweeney Field.

The Leopards improve to 8-4 overall, while the Vikings drop to 1-9.

Salem State opened the scoring just over a minute in, as Shayla Inglis (Lowell, Mass.) netted an unassisted goal for a 1-0 lead. The Leopards turned a 5-0 run, with three goals coming from senior Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) and two from Galan to lead 5-1 with 18:30 left in the first half. Wentworth continued to put the pressure on offensively, scoring five more goals to Salem's three before halftime, despite 11 first-half saves from Gianna DeNisco (Peabody, Mass.).

Galan kicked off the second half with a man-down goal, and added another at 24:34, sandwiched by a goal apiece from Tara McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) and Kirsten Bradley (Peabody, Mass.) to cut the lead in half, 12-6. The Leopards then turned a 6-2 run, and hit running time with 13:11 left to play on an unassisted goal from Paradis straight from the draw control.

Galan's 14 points came off a game-high nine goals and five assists, breaking the previous record of 12 points set by Paradis last season.  Paradis finished with six goals and eight draw controls, while causing two turnovers with three ground balls. Sophomore Emily Rogers(Pembroke, Mass.) scored four goals, while junior Julie Dam (Milford, Mass.) rounded out multi-goal games with two. Freshman Bella McMahon (North Yarmouth, Maine) rounded out the scoring for Wentworth with a single goal. Defensively, senior Leah Cummins (Plymouth, Mass.), sophomore Allie Lauersen (York, Maine), Paradis and Dam each scooped up three ground balls.

Sophomore Lily Kuhns (Gloucester, Mass.) improves to 6-4 in between the pipes for Wentworth, and made 13 saves overall. DeNisco suffered the loss with 11 saves in first-half action, while Trisha MacLean (Medford, Mass.) made four saves in second-half relief.
