UMass Dartmouth Wins 9-7 Over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. - Sam Muir (Sturbridge, Mass.) posted five goals to lift the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs to a 9-7 win over the Salem State Vikings at Alumni Field on Saturday. UMass Dartmouth rises to 2-3 on the season while the Vikings slip to 1-5 on the year.

Brooke Scahill (Gales Ferry, Conn.) - 2 goals, Brooke Martel (Haverhill, Mass.) - 1 goal, Isabella Mancini (Bellingham, Mass.) - 1 goal all goals from the Corsairs. Tara McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) - 2 goals, Taylor Lund (Woburn, Mass.) - 2 goals, Kirsten Bradley (Peabody, Mass.) - 1 goal, Shayla Inglis (Lowell, Mass.) - 1 goal, Isabel Silva (Lowell, Mass.) - 1 goal all from Salem State.

Lund scored the first goal of the game in the third minute of the first half giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead. A minute later, Scahill 's goal tied the game at 1-1. At 9:59, Salem State took back the lead 2-1 with a goal from Bradley. The Corsairs finished the rest of the half strong, scoring five consecutive goals and were ahead 6-2 at halftime. Muir netted two of the goals. 

Salem State started the second half with a sense of urgency and climbed back into the game scoring four straight goals. The Corsairs were down a player and Inglis took advantage by netting a shot bringing the Vikings within one goal at 6-5. McLaughlin's second of the half evened the score at 6-6 with 20 minutes remaining in the half. However, Muir closed the game scoring three goals around one from Inglis, with the final two being free position shots, to secure the win.

For UMass Dartmouth, Bridget Harrington (Northhampton, Mass.) earned the win saving eight shots with seven allowed goals. On the other side, Salem State's Gianna DeNisco (Peabody, Mass.) took the loss with three saves and nine goals allowed.
