St. Anselm Defeats Salem State 6-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Salem State lost 6-0 to Saint Anselm on Tuesday night at Sullivan Arena. Goalie Sarah Plourde (Hooksett, N.H.) made a season-high 47 saves in the loss as the Vikings go to 6-12-3 on the season. 

The Hawks (18-2-1) dominated possession early in the first period. Saint Anselm struck for the first goal of the game at the 4:13 mark. Sophomore Katy Meehan (Quincy, Mass.) found classmate Madison Sprague (Hugo, Minn.) directly in front of the net. She buried the puck inside the right post for a 1-0 Saint Anselm lead. The Hawks had a 15-2 advantage in shots going into the first intermission.

Saint Anselm wasted little time to add to its lead in the second period. Sophomore Jayden Young (Norwood, N.Y.) skated to the top of the right circle and sent a wrist shot by Vikings goaltender Sarah Plourde just 21 seconds into the period.

After killing of a pair of penalties, the Hawks made it 3-0 at the 5:14 mark of the second period. Freshman Erin Meyers (Saint Paul, Minn.) found the back of the net with an assist from senior Caley Mueller (Littleton, Colo.).

Saint Anselm maintained the pressure for the rest of the period but the score stayed at 3-0 going into the second intermission.

After another strong start to the period, the home team scored on their first power play of the period. A shot from sophomore Gabby Monaco (La Verne, Calif.) from the point extended the Hawks lead at the 10:52 mark, following a faceoff win by Meyers. 

A late tally by sophomore Mary Lambert (Plaistow, N.H.) with 1:38 remaining made it 5-0, before junior Megan Klaus (State College, Pa.) scored the empty-net goal while the Hawks were short-handed with two seconds left made it 6-0.

Goaltender Logan Knip (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) turned away 10 shots.
