Norwich Blanks Salem State 8-0

SALEM, Mass. - Adrieana Rossini's two-goal performance lifted the Norwich Cadets to an 8-0 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) victory over the Salem State Vikings at Richard H. Rockett Arena on Friday night. The Cadets scored four goals in the first period while goalie Kate Winstanley (Lansdale, Pa.) stopped eight shots for the Cadets, registering her first shutout of the season. The Vikings fall to 6-9-2 on the season and 3-6-1 in the NEHC. The Cadets go to 13-3-1 and remain undefeated in conference at 11-0.

In the first period, the Cadets were shorthanded as they picked up a penalty for too many players on the ice. However, Adrieana Rossini's (Malden, Mass.) managed to score a shorthanded goal to put the Cadets ahead 1-0. Rossini faked a shot to the left and slipped the puck to the right side of the net.

Later in the period, Liesel Baker's (Saline, Mich.) shot rebounded to Jessica Piracini (Tewksbury, Mass.), who recovered the puck five feet from the goal, and scored giving Norwich a 2-0 lead. The Cadets extended the lead to 4-0 with a pair of goals from Alyssa Hulst (Scarborough, Maine), and Rossini.

Salem State managed to kill off a 5-on-3 power play in the second, but Carly Menges (Novelty, Ohio) scored from just inside the Vikings' blue line to increase the Cadets lead to 5-0 at the 7:16 mark of the second. Samantha Benoit (Bow, N.H.) added another score late in the second before Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) closed the scoring with two third period goals.

Goalie Isabelle Woodward (Ottawa, Ontario) had a total of 29 saves for Salem State.
