Connecticut College Scores Twice In Third Period For A 2-1 Win Over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – Elena Gualtieri (Rome, N.Y.) and Erin Dillon (Hazlet, N.J.) both scored less than two minutes into the opening of the third period to help the Connecticut College Camels skate to a 2-1 win over Salem State at Rockett Arena on Tuesday evening. Connecticut College improves to 5-4-2 on the year while the Vikings slip 5-8-1.

Salem State goalie Isabelle Woodward (Ottawa, Ontario) kept the Camels scoreless until seventeen seconds into the third when Gualtieri put home a loose puck, tying the game 1-1. A minute and forty two seconds later, Dillon put Connecticut College on top when she went top shelf, beating Woodward high on her glove slide. Carly Denora (Verona. N.J.), who finished with six saves, kept the Vikings off the scoreboard in the third to earn the win.

Despite being outshot 9-3 in the opening period, Salem State struck first with just thirty-one seconds remaining in the first when Casie Curtin (Wrentham, Mass.) slipped a shot underneath the pads of Denora for a 1-0 Viking's lead.

Connecticut College continued to pressure the Salem State zone in the second, outshooting the Vikings 14-3 in the period, but Salem State goalie Woodward was up to the task as she kept the Camels off the scoreboard over the first forty-minutes.

Woodward finished with 33 saves for the Vikings, who committed seven penalties compared to just one for Connecticut College.
