Nor'easters Claim 6-2 Victory Over Vikings

SALEM, Mass. – The University of New England earned their second straight win over Salem State with a 6-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at Rockett Arena. Jessi Scott (Barre, Vt.) and Kenady Nevicosi (Breckenridge, Colo.) each scored two goals apiece to help the Nor'easters improve to 7-1-1 on the season. The Vikings slip to 2-5.

Brianna Jewett (Woburn, Mass.) and Scott each scored first period goals giving The University of New England a 2-1 advantage heading into the first intermission. Jewett scored on a power play as her shot from the point snuck in just inside the left post. Scott beat goalie Sarah Plourde (Hooksett, N.H.) high on a nice feed from Julianne Sheehan (Chelmsford, Mass.) at the 9:44 mark.

Jacqueline Sindoris added her team-leading sixth goal on a power play opportunity at 16:27 to draw the Vikings to within a goal.

Kerryann Goode (Millis, Mass.) converted a short-handed attempt to tie the game early in the second period, but Nevicosi scored the University of New England's second power play goal to put the Nor'easters back on top at 8:49 of the second.  Sheehan doubled the lead as the University of New England scored with just thirty seconds remaining on a man-advantage allowing the Nor'easters to take a 4-2 advantage into the third.

Nevicosi added her second goal of the game in the 11th minute of the third and Scott tallied the fifth power play goal of the game in the 17th minute for UNE, which finished 5-11 (.455%) on the power play.

Julia Benjamin (Tolland, Conn.) made 24 saves for the Nor'easters while Plourde stopped 26 shots for the Vikings.
