Beacons Outshine Vikings 7-1

SALEM, Mass. - Elie Fallieras' (Columbus, Ohio) hat-trick helped the UMass Boston Beacons defeat the Salem State Vikings 7-1 on Friday evening at Richard H. Rockett Arena. The Beacons improve to 3-4 on the year and 2-3 in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) while the Vikings fall to 2-3 on the season and 2-3 in conference. UMass Boston pulled away late, scoring four of their goals in the third period.

In the first period, Erica Lunn (Kingston, Mass.) put the Beacons on the board with a low shot under goalie Isabelle Woodward (Ottawa, Ontario) giving UMass Boston a 1-0 lead.

Toward the end of the first period, goalie Alyssa DePippo (Pittsburgh, Pa.) saved a near-goal from a shot taken by Meghan Concannon (Raynham, Mass.) allowing the Beacons to hold onto their slim 1-0 lead.

In the second period, Kylie Currier (Middleton, Mass.) was called for a tripping penalty. On the power play, Fallieras rifled a shot that hit the top of the net giving UMass Boston a 2-0 lead.

As Currier's penalty ended, Concannon took a shot that hit off the right post, Currier was in the right position to tap the puck into the net bringing the score to 2-1.

Penalties on Catherine Salvetti (Saugus, Mass.) for hooking and Jillian Danton (Arlington, Mass.) for holding allowed a 5 on 3 opportunity for UMass Boston. This opened up space for Edy Moritz (Guilford, Conn.) to score on the ride side of the net. The Beacons went up 3-1 at the end of the 2nd period.

In the third period, UMass Boston scored four goals, two from Fallieras, and one from Cailey Kozich (Wexford, Pa.) and Katie Leffler (Key Largo, Fla.). The Beacons outshot the Vikings 14-7 in the period and 42-17 for the game. They also converted 4-of-7 power-play opportunities.

Woodward saved 35 shots for the Vikings and DePippo stopped 15 shots and Olivia Petito saved one shot for the Beacons.

The Vikings will have another NEHC matchup against Southern Maine on the road on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
