Women's Ice Hockey Comes From Behind to Defeat Suffolk

SALEM, Mass. - Kylie Currier (Middleton, Mass.) and Jacqueline Sindoris (Charlestown, Mass.) combined for four goals and an assist as Salem State rallied to a 6-4 come from behind win over the Suffolk Rams on Saturday afternoon on "Military Appreciation Day" at Rockett Arena. Danielle Kelley's (Charlestown, Mass.) go-ahead goal with 1:22 left helped the Vikings improve to 2-2 on the season and in the New England Hockey Conference. The Rams fall to 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in the NEHC.   

Before the game, sophomore defenseman Ashley Wojewodzic received a surprise visit from her brother Lance Corporal Corey Wojewodzic of The United States Marine Corps.

In the first period, Julia Volpe (Littleton, Colo.) recovered the puck on the right side of the goal which was exposed allowing Volpe to score the Rams' first goal giving them a 1-0 lead.

Later in the first period, Suffolk won a faceoff on Salem State's side and Emily Johnston (Surrey, British Columbia) rifled in the puck into right corner of the net putting Suffolk ahead 2-0.

The Vikings were aggressive on the offensive end taking numerous shots to open up the second period. Within a few minutes, Kylie Currier (Middleton, Mass.) scored Salem State's first goal of the game from the weak side of the net.

14 seconds later, Kerryann Goode (Millis, Mass.) tied the game at 2-2 with a quick goal that slipped under goalie Abbey Weisrock (Delevan, Wis.).

In the third period, both teams began trading goals. It started with Jacqueline Sindoris (Charlestown, Mass.) putting the Vikings ahead 3-2 just seconds into the period.  

Salem State's lead didn't last for long as Tess Adams (Calgary, Alberta) broke free and was all alone with goalie Sarah Plourde (Hooksett, Mass.) and with a sliver of space she scored for the Rams, tying it at 3 -piece.

The Vikings quickly responded on a power play when Currier took a slap shot that flew into the left corner of the net giving Salem State 4-3 lead.

Adams, however scored her second goal of the period less than two minutes later, evening the score at 4-4

With a 1:22 left in the third period, Kelley took a shot with Weisrock out of positon putting the Vikings ahead at 5-4.

The Rams subbed out their goalie and Sindoris made them pay by scoring from the other side of the ice solidifying the game at 6-4.

Plourde picked up her first win of the season with a 34-save effort. Weisrock made 15 saves for Suffolk, which went 1-for-7 on the power play.
