Coast Guard Beats Salem State 67-41

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Annabella Farabaugh led a trio of Coast Guard players in double figures as she finished with a game-high 14 points and Breanna Wood had 10 points and career-high 15 rebounds leading the Bears to a 67-41 win over Salem State in a non-conference game.

It was the first home win of the season for Coast Guard, which had dropped its first three home games of the season. The Bears improve to 9-3 while Salem State drops to 3-6.

Kyra Hartman added 13 points while Wood recorded her third double-double of the season and her fifth straight game with 10 or more rebounds in the win. Emma Puddington had a game-high five assists to go with her eight points and nine rebounds for the Bears.

Liz Zaiter led the Vikings with 10 points while Nicole Freddo added eight points. Freddo and Mia Crawley led Salem State with nine rebounds each.

The Bears, who shot a season low and were just 7 of 34 from 3-point range in a loss on Tuesday, connected on back-to-back treys by Farabaugh and Hartman in the opening minute for a quick 6-0 lead. Freddo drew Salem State to within a point, 10-9, but Coast Guard led 17-12 after the first quarter. The Vikings shot 5-20 (25.0%) in the quarter.

Coast Guard would use an 11-0 run to start the second quarter to open up a 28-12 lead with 6:14 left in the half and took a 33-20 lead into halftime. Salem State managed just eight points in the quarter.

The Bears would get another quick start to the quarter by scoring eight straight in the opening 90 seconds of the second half as the lead ballooned to 41-20 and the Bears cruised from there.

Coast Guard shot 33.8 percent (24-71) while making 7 of 21 from behind the arc while Salem State was 17 of 62 (27.4 percent) and hit just 2 of 17 from 3-point range.
