BOSTON -- Courtney Paschal (Waltham, Mass.) scored a team-high 17 points, but a 25-11 second quarter by UMass Dartmouth propelled the Beacons to a 82-56 victory over Salem State on Tuesday night at Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.
The Vikings led early as an Alyssa Genness (Belgrade, Maine) gave Salem State a 19-13 lead with 1:30 remaining in the first quarter. Mia Crawley (Hyannis, Mass.) converted a free throw with no time left that gave the Vikings a 20-17 lead after one.
However, it was all UMass Bsoton (7-1) the rest of the way. A 10-0 run by the Beacons in the second quarter putt hem in front to stay 27-20. UMass Boston would push their lead to as much as 13 with just over a minute before the halftime break thanks to a Nicola Webbe jumper.
After the break, Salem State (2-5) tried to battle back, but the Beacons offense could not be stopped as they shot 40% or better over the final two quarters. They were also dangerous from distance as they went 5-for-9.
Kaylee Haynes (Bridgewater, Mass.) had a strong second half for the Beacons as she scored all of her career-high 12 points in the final two stanzas. She was 4-for-9, and 3-for-3 from behind the arc.
Jalani Jackson (Brockton, Mass.) and Tahjai Mazyck (Hamden, Conn.) both finished in double-figures as the duo combined for 22 points. Paschal finished with nine rebounds while Liz Zaiter (Peabody, Mass.) chipped in with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
