Colby Sawyer Beats Salem State 80-55

SALEM, Mass. - Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) finished with 18 points (FG 8-15), six rebounds, and three blocks for the Colby-Sawyer Chargers in their 80-55 win over the Salem State Vikings at Twohig Gymnasium on Wednesday night. Colby-Sawyer progresses to 6-1 on the season while Salem State goes to 2-4 on the year. 

In the first quarter, Liz Zaiter (Peabody, Mass.) scored eight points (FG 4-9) in the period hitting a pair of mid-range shots while converting twice in the paint. It was a neck and neck game with the score tied at 13 at the end of the first period.

The Chargers trailed 17-15 with 8:15 left in the second quarter. Colby-Sawyer went on a 10-0 run with the help of two steals from Caitlyn Boucher (Swanzey, NH). Boucher's defense helped the Chargers get out in transition and build a 37-26 led at the half. Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, NH) finished the half with nine points (FG 3-5) and four rebounds.

Colby-Sawyer shot 48.1% (FG 13-27) from the field and the Vikings shot 25.8% (FG 8-31) from the floor.

Sugars had a strong third quarter scoring 12 points, doing most of her damage on the inside. Sugars' contribution kept the Chargers in front the rest of the way as they cruised to a 25-point victory.

Colby-Sawyer finished the game converting on 50.8% (FG 30-59) of their shots while Salem State struggled shooting the ball at 27.4% (FG 17-62).

The Chargers' Hamilton posted 15 points (FG 6-8), eight rebounds, and four assists.

For the Vikings, Zaiter finished with 18 points (FG 7-16), three steals, and two blocks. Courtney Paschal (Waltham, Mass.) added 11 points (FG 1-6, FT 8-8) and eight rebounds.
