SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State University recognized women's basketball player and 1987 graduate Evelyn Oquendo, who was recently inducted into the inaugural class of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Hall of Fame during halftime of the Vikings' game with Westfield State on Saturday, February 9.

Oquendo is the all-time women's leading scorer at Salem State and co-captained the 1986 squad to the school's first and only NCAA national championship. A three-time All-American, she was honored as one of top Division III players by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Runner-up for national player of the year in 1984, Oquendo's number 24 was retired by the university in 2010.

Presenting her hall of fame plaque is current Salem State director of athletics, Tracey Hathaway.
