Red Dragons Win 66-46 Over Vikings at Williams Invitational

Williamstown, Mass. -- SUNY Oneonta defeated Salem State 66-46 on the opening day of the Williams College Invitational on Friday evening. Salem State once again got off to a slow start offensively, making just two field goals in the first quarter as the Red Dragons raced out to an 18-8 lead. The Vikings (0-3) went just 2-16 (12.5%) from the floor in the second quarter as SUNY Oneonta (2-0) bulit a commanding 37-12 lead at the half

The Red Dragons' lead grew to as high as 29 points in the third despite eight points from Kia Fernandes (Wareham, Mass.) in the quarter. The Vikings improved offensively in the third, outscoring SUNY Oneonta 18-12 while holding the Red Drgons to just 5-13 (38.5%) shooting. Fernandes continued her second half surge, scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter going 5-7 (71%) to finish with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.    

SUNY Oneonta finished the game 26-60 (43.3%) from the field and held a 57-37 rebounding margin.

Gianna Moschella (Peabody, Mass.) added 12 points for the Vikings. Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) led the Red Dragons with 17 points while Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet, N.Y.)  and Madeline Frank (Syracuse, N.Y.), who also had 14 rebounds, each finished with 11 points.
