Bobby Verdun Named New Head Women's Basketball Coach
SALEM, MASS. – Salem State Director of Athletics Tracey Hathaway has announced the hiring of men's basketball assistant coach Bobby Verdun, as the new head coach of the women's basketball program. "Coach Verdun has tremendous leadership and coaching experience. Those who know him describe him as a man of character, integrity, and one who deeply cares about higher education and the student-athletes he serves. He is a terrific fit for our women's basketball program at Salem State University as he will ensure our student athletes succeed on the court and in the classroom. We welcome Bobby to the Viking family."
Verdun has attained over 25 years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels. He guided Canton High School to the Massachusetts Sectional Quarter Finals, before becoming an assistant men's basketball coach at Franklin Pierce University. His time with the program was impactful as the Ravens led the league in defense and participated in conference championships each of the years he was there. Bobby spearheaded recruiting efforts, producing numerous all-league selections and two All-American candidates.

Verdun was also a successful tennis coach at Franklin Pierce, garnering two NECC Coach of the Year awards. He compiled an impressive 34-14 dual match record with only two losses to Division II opponents in the Northeast while his teams consistently ranked in the top 10 regionally.
He has also worked with professional men's and women's basketball players and coaches all over the world, teaching skills and strategy throughout the country as well as Canada, Europe, and Australia. He's also been a featured guest lecturer and speaker at over 100 basketball camps.
Most recently Verdun served as a men's basketball assistant coach to Chris Harvey at Salem State. His impact was felt as the team enjoyed a 22-4 record and was ranked in the top 20 nationally for the 2017-2018 season.
A current resident of Marblehead, he lives with his wife Stephanie, daughter Hannah (16); son Zach (13). He's been a successful consultant with his firm Active Entities Consulting working with clients globally to develop fitness and wellness centers.
