Bio

SALEM, MASS. -- Alex Campione was hired as Salem State's softball coach in 2018 after spending three seasons as the head coach at Wentworth Institute.

In just one season, she has helped the Vikings improve in many statistical categories and has turned the program in a positive direction.

Campione was hired as Salem State's softball coach in 2018 after spending three seasons as the Head Coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology. While at Wentworth, Campione lead the Leopards to their most successful season in 7 years while increasing the team’s performance in statistical categories across the board. The Leopards tied the program win streak during the 2017 campaign and received their first weekly conference award since 2012.  Campione also served as the department liaison for Project 40, a campus wide initiative developed to help students' take control of their happiness by building resiliency skills.  

Prior to her time at Wentworth, Campione was an assistant coach at Franklin Pierce University. With the Ravens she worked primarily with the pitchers and catchers. During her first season in 2014, Franklin Pierce tied a program record for most conference wins in a single season. 

Campione graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 2013 with a B.A. in English and a B.S. in Psychology. She played one season of softball with the Crusaders, starting 23 of 28 games in which she appeared. She spent her final three seasons as a member of the Crusaders' Women’s Ice Hockey team, tallying 40 points (18 goals, 22 assists) in 71 career games. A two-time ECAC East All-Academic selection, she was the 2013 recipient of the program's Seventh Player Award, given to the player who displays character traits that exceed program expectations on and off the ice.

Campione graduated with her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and Sport Psychology from Boston University in 2015. Campione is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and is currently employed as a Clinical Director at a residential school and treatment facility.

A native of Townsend, Mass., Campione attended the Pomfret School in Connecticut where she earned 12 varsity letters in field hockey, ice hockey, and softball. She was the 2009 recipient of the Pomfret Bowl, given to the best athlete in class by a vote of their peers.
