Vikings Clobber Gators

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Salem State scored two five-inning victories over Pine Manor on Thursday, easliy defeating the Gators 24-1 and 19-1 in their doubleheader sweep. Courtney Kilgore led the offensive onslaught with a 4-for-5 performance, including a home run and four RBI. Gabryanna Cardenas went 3-for-5 with five RBI and Dominique Del Vecchio went 4-for-6 with four RBI while pitching a four-hitter, allowing just a run in the first win. Gracie Hogan, Courtney Kilgore and Hannah Magee each collected four hits and Hogan pitched three innings of four-hit relief to lead the Vikings to a victory in game two. Salem State is now 13-23 on the season while Pine Manor remains winless at 0-20.

Game 1

The Vikings collected 21 hits and took advantage of eight Gator errors. Salem State scored 19 runs over the first three innings, highlighted by an eight-run second. 13 batters went to the plate as Cardenas and Kilgore each had two RBI in the inning. Three more runs on four hits in the fourth made it 22-0. A Nahalia Fauro double broke the shutout in the fourth. Kilgore capped the scoring with her first career home run, a two-run shot that made the score 24-1. Ashley Smith took the loss, giving up 13 runs on 21 hits with seven walks.

Game 2

Dominique Del Vecchio hit her first home run, a grand slam in the fifth, finishing with six RBI and Kilgore added her second home run of the day a solo shot in the fourth as the Vikings banged out 27 hits in the 19-1 victory. The Vikings opened up a 6-0 lead in the second on eight hits. Five runs on five hits in the fourth made it 14-0, as Kilgore led off the inning with a home run as the first six Salem State batters reached. Chloe Manousos added her fouth RBI of the game on an RBI groundout and Kasey Nolan follwed with a run-scoring single. Sydney Chiasson added an RBI single in the fifth, before Del Vecchio made it 19-1, clearing the bases with her first home run. Smith earned her second loss of the day, allowing 18 runs on 27 hits with four walks. Kiana Wilkerson added a third inning home run for Pine Manor's lone run.
