Salem State Rips Off Four Straight Wins In Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – After starting 1-2 on their current spring trip, Salem State ripped off four straight wins to move to 5-2 overall on the season. The Vikings picked up a 12-9 decision over Dean before completing a doubleheader sweep, 7-6 (8 innings) over Norwich and 3-1 against SUNY Poly. Salem State defeated the Wildcats again 6-4 before their final scheduled matchup with Immaculata.

Kasey Nolan (Braintree, Mass.) led the charge against the Bulldogs with a 4-4 day at the plate, scoring twice and adding an RBI. Chloe Manousos (Lowell, Mass.) and Giana Berkowitz (Revere, Mass.) each collected two hits apiece while Berkowitz added four RBI.  Dominique Del Vecchio (Stoneham, Mass.) earned the win in relief of starter Nia Neves (Medford, Mass.). Del Vecchio allowed three hits in two innings of work with just one run given up. Neves lasted five innings and allowed eight runs on 13 hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.

The Vikings came-from-behind to defeat Norwich 7-6. Trailing 6-4 in the eighth, Salem State scored three times as Sydney Chiasson (Hudson, Mass.) – RBI single and Nolan – RBI triple tied the game before Manousos ended it with a base hit to right. Manousos and Nolan went a combined 6-9 at the plate with a pair of runs and three RBI. The Vikings' rallied in the seventh, scoring twice to force extra innings. Nolan and Ivy Bonoldi (Medfield, Mass.) provided RBI singles in the inning. Brooke Westmoreland (Saugus, Mass.) went the distance allowing 15 hits and six runs – five earned – with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.  

Despite just six hits, Salem State scratched across two runs in the third and another in the fifth to hold off SUNY-Poly 3-1. Mikayla Porcaro's (Amesbury, Mass.) two-run double was the difference as the Vikings won their third straight game. Del Vecchio earned the win with two shutout innings while Westmoreland earned a three-inning save, allowing just a hit with two walks and three strikeouts. Gracie Hogan (Northbridge, Mass.) earned the start, giving up a run on five hits in two innings.  

The two teams met again with the Vikings once again coming out on top 6-4. Hogan earned the win with three innings of work in relief of Del Vecchio, scattering five hits while allowing a run. Berkowitz picked up the save with an inning of scoreless relief. Bonoldi had two hits, including a two-run double in the third, and two runs scored.
