Salem State Completes Undefeated LEC Regular Season

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State capped of their Little East regular season championship with a 5-4 win over rival UMass Boston as the Vikings finished their conference slate a perfect 6-0. Corey Cherico, who was honored before the match as the only graduating senior, won a key match at No.2 singles to spearhead the win. Salem State finished the season with a 9-2 record and will prepare to host the Little East Men's Tennis Championship next week. The Beacons end their campaign 2-8 and 2-4 in the LEC.

Andrew Muttiah had his 20-match undefeated streak snapped, losing to Patrick Ramos 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Cherico manned the No. 2 spot and won an important point, 6-1, 6-3 over Melvin Nina. Freshman Quentin Wilkins won 6-1, 6-0 over Maxwell Dill at No.3 singles. Parker Andreoli blanked Felix Nguyen at No. 4 singles as the two teams split singles play. Kevin Merino-Rivas lost a tough three-set match at No. 5 singles, 7-6(7-4), 6-4, 10-8.

Salem State took two-out-of-three doubles matches with Muttiah / Wilkins winning 8-1 over Ramos / Karsten Bourgoine. Cherico / Josh Gruber defeated Ryan Tran / Nguyen, 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
