Vikings Advance to Little East Championship

WEYMOUTH, Mass. – No. 2 seed Salem State reached their second consecutive Little East title match with a convincing 5-0 victory over No. 3 seed Rhode Island College in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Friday afternoon at the Weymouth Tennis Club. The Vikings will face top-seed UMass Boston in a rematch at 1:00 pm tomorrow.

Salem State cruised through doubles play as Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) / Chen Chen (Lawrence, Mass.) defeated Alex Bourque (North Smithfield, R.I.) / Alan Esposito (Clinton, Conn.) 8-1 at first doubles. Mitchell Dyer (N. Attleboro, Mass.) / Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.) earned an 8-1 victory at second doubles over Chandler Scott (Ashaway, R.I.) / Mike Shea (Smithfield, R.I.) while Noah Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.)  / Moses Ba (Lynn, Mass.) pulled out an 8-7 (13-11) win at third doubles to complete the sweep.

Chen shutout Ethan Hoy(West Warwick, R.I.) 6-0, 6-0 before before Muttiah clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Borque.

The Vikings improve to 9-4 while the Anchormen end the season 10-5.
