UMass Boston Triumphs 7-2 Over Salem State
SALEM, Mass. – The rematch from last season's Little East Conference men's tennis championship took place at The Central Campus Tennis Courts on the campus of Salem State on Tuesday. However, The defending champion Vikings were bested 7-2 by UMass Boston. Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.) and Noah Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.) recorded singles wins for Salem State's two points. The Vikings are now 1-3 on the year and 1-1 in the Little East Conference. The Beacons improve to 4-3 and 2-0 in conference.
UMass Boston jumped on top 3-0 with a sweep of doubles play. Nandish Shah (Ahmedabad, India) / Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) bested Bazile / Chen Chen (Lawrence, Mass.) at first doubles 8-4 while
Onkgopotse Mokoka(Pretoria, South Africa) / Miguel Beltran (Ashland, Mass.) defeated Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) / Moses Ba (Lynn, Mass.) 8-5 at second doubles. Roy and Ray Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) earned an 8-1 win at third doubles.
Bazile picked up the first Salem State point with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at second singles over Beltran. Hodgkins won 4-6, 6-4, 18-16 over Ray Platteel at fifth singles. Chen lost a close three-set match to Roy Platteel 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 5-10 while Shah defeated Muttiah 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. Comerchero won in three sets over Dyer at fourth singles while Mokoka took the win at sixth singles 6-4, 6-4.
