Lions Sweep Vikings 9-0
SALEM ,Mass. – Salem State opened up their spring season with a 9-0 loss to Eastern Nazarene at the Central Campus Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. The Vikings slip to 0-2 on the season while the Lions improve to 6-5.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) / Alberto Escobar (Sevilla, Spain) and Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) / Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) earned wins at first and second doubles respectively 8-4 and 8-3 over Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) / Mitchell Dyer (N. Attleboro, Mass.) and Chen Chen (Lawrence, Mass.) / Noah Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.).
Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.) manned first singles for the Vikings, but was defeated by Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) 6-3, 6-2. Escobar beat Chen 6-4, 6-1 at second singles while Opaschowski claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win at third singles. The Lions completed the sweep with straight set victories at fourth through sixth singles.
