Vikings Blank Mass Maritime, 1-0, to Remain Undefeated in League Action

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – The Salem State men's soccer team (9-4-1, 5-0-0 MASCAC) remained undefeated in league play with a 1-0 victory over Mass Maritime (2-10-3, 0-4-1 MASCAC). Junior Lucas Amaral (Peabdy, Mass.) netted the game-winner, while sophmore goalkeeper Matthew Hauntsman (Milford, N.H.) made four saves in between the pipes for his second career shutout.

Stepping up to take a free kick from 30 yards out, Amaral broke the scoreless deadlock in the 37th minute knocking the ball into the left side of the net. The Vikings kept the Buccanears on their heels, outshooting them 16-8 and putting 11 on target. Meanwhile on the defensive end, Salem State held Mass Maritime—a team tha averages nearly 13 shots per game—to just 8 total shots with four on target. Hauntsman secured the shut-out victory with a beautiful save off a solid header by Mass Maritime's AJ Bubencik in the 67th minute.

The Vikings return to Alumni Field on Wednesday when they host Lesley at 7 pm.
