Ramos Nets Hat Trick as Head Coach Matt Correia Earns 100th Career Victory

HENNIKER, N.H. – Head coach Matt Correia reached the 100 career wins plateau behind a hat-trick from Nicholas Ramos in Salem State's 3-1 win over New Engalnd College on Wednesday evening at Don Melander Field. Correia, who is in his ninth season, has averaged 12 wins a season during his first two years as coach of the Vikings; has averaged over 11 victories a season during his first eight years, including six at Daniel Webster. The four-time conference coach of the year is the second Salem State men's soccer coach to accumulate 100 career wins - Nicholas Padovani (1980-200), who accounted for 313 victories during his tenure.      

Ramos scored his second hat-trick of the season in leading the Vikings (7-4) to their third straight win. Salem State carried a 1-0 lead into halftime as Ramos connected on a Grace Dos Santos cross, giving the Vikings the 1-0 advantage in the 13th minute. 

The Vikings doubled their lead in the 59th minute, as Ramos scored off of a rebound. The Pilgrims (5-8) cut the deficit to 2-1 off a counter-attack by Panagiotis Galatas, who went the distance and released a curling shot from the top of the box into the top right corner of the net. However, In the 81st minute, Ramos iced the game, picking up his third goal of the contest off a long pass from Ryan Smith that freed Ramos from the NEC backline who then scored.

Salem State's Matthew Hauntsman got the starting nod, and he turned aside nine shots for his second win in as many starts. Max Fairbanks recorded six saves in the contest for New England College.
