Emerson Nips Salem State 1-0

SALEM, MASS.  –  Luc Fougere (Chicago, Ill.) scored the only goal of the game in the 47th minute as Emerson defeated Salem State 1-0 on day two of the Salem State Men's Soccer Classic. After a scoreless first half, Luc Fougere (Chicago, Ill.) broke the tie as he laced a free kick over the top of the defense that was misplayed into the game's only goal. The Lions improve to 1-0-1 on the season while the Vikings slip to 0-2.  

Paa Sowe (Lynn, Mass.) nearly tied the game in the 61st minute, but his laser from 20 yards out caromed off the cross bar keeping the score 1-0. Later, Nicholas Ramos (Middleboro, Mass.) had one final scoring chance for Salem State, but David Kemp (London, England) made a diving stop to secure the lead.

Kemp made four saves in the win while Christopher Jimenez (Nashua, N.H.) stopped six shots on net. Both teams took nine shots with the Vikings holding a 3-1 edge in corners.

Pine Manor will face Keene State in the finale of the Salem State Men's Soccer Classic later today.
