Rodrigues Lifts Salem State in Double Overtime

Salem, Mass. – Salem State need extra time for the second consecutive game as Orlando Rodrigues (Burlington, Mass.) netted the game-winner for the Vikings in double overtime for a 2-1 MASCAC win over the Mass Maritime Buccaneers. Salem State received a corner in the 100^th minute, which was taken by Lucas Amaral (Peabody, Mass.), who found Rodrigues for a header that reached above keeper Mitch Hardy's (Pepperell, Mass.) hands.

The Vikings improve to (7-1) and (2-0) in the MASCAC, while the Buccaneers fall to (1-5-1) and (0-2) in the conference.

In the 11^th minute, Igor Caldas assisted Ryan Smith for a goal from ten yards out, giving Salem State a 1-0 lead. With two minutes left in the half, Adam Crawford (Kingston, Mass.) equalized the game at 1-1 with a low shot just out of goalie Christopher Jimenez's (Nashua, N.H.) reach.  

In the second half, both teams had opportunities to score, but couldn't covert those chances to goals. Mass Maritime dominated possession, controlling the tempo while attempting nine shots in the second half to Salem State's four.

For the Buccaneers, Hardy had three saves for the game. Jimenez was superb with his goalkeeping, especially in the second half, saving 13 shots with four of those coming in overtime to keep the Vikings alive.
