Dos Santos Nets Game-Winner in Overtime

SALEM, Mass. – Grace Dos Santos (Brockton, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in extra time as the Vikings defeated UMass Dartmouth 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. Lucas Amaral (Peabody, Mass.) found Dos Santos on a breakaway and the forward beat Danny Andrade (New Bedford, Mass.) from five yards out for the game-winner just over a minute in overtime. The Vikings improve to 6-1 on the season while the Corsairs fall to (0-5-1).

Both teams entered halftime in a scoreless tie as neither team could find the back of the net. The Corsairs took seven shots to Salem State's six.

In the 52nd minute, Joe Morehead (Fairhaven, Mass.) broke the tie as he took the ball up the field and slivered through two Viking defenders to put UMass Dartmouth on top 1-0.

Twelve minutes later, Dominique Panmo (Lynn, Mass.) crossed the ball from the left side of the field to Edwin Demoya (Salem, Mass.) who floated a header just over the goalie's reach to tie the game at 1-1. Andrade helped keep the game tied minutes later, making two consecutive saves from point-blank range to deny Salem State the lead.

Andrade finished with five saves for the game for the Corsairs. On the other side, Christopher Jimenez (Nashua, N.H.) did a brilliant job holding Dartmouth to one goal, making seven stops for the game.

The Vikings finished the game with a 21-15 advantage in shots.
