Keene State Cruises to 25-5 Win Over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. -- Jordan Caito (Londonderry, N.H.) scored five goals as Keene State cruised to a 25-5 victory over Salem State in a Little East match on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Owls took an 11-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in evening their record at 5-5 while remaining unbeaten in the LEC at 4-0. The Vikings slip to 3-6 and 1-2 in the league.

Drew Worthley (Saugus, Mass.) – 2 goals, Zach Persson (Danvers, Mass.), 1-goal and Dan Xu (Billerica, Mass.) – 1 goal all scored for Salem State.

Nine different goal scorers accounted for 11 first quarter goals for the Owls. Marcella and Caito netted two goals apiece for Keene State, which raced out to a 7-0 lead. Persson got one back for Salem State before five unanswered scores ended the period.

Caito scored three more goals in the second quarter as the Owls went on an 11-0 scoring spurt before Lamoureux converted for the Vikings with 2:06 left, making the score 18-2, before a Caito score with 15 seconds remaining made the score 19-2 in favor of the Owls at halftime.

Keene State controlled the tempo, outshooting Salem State 30-5 while winning 17-23 face offs.

The Owls tallied four more goals in the third in building a 23-2 lead. Three straight scores by Salem state narrowed the margin to 23-5 in the fourth before Bertone and Dawson capped the scoring making the final 25-5.

Chase Chamberlin (Bow, N.H.) earned the win, allowing one goal against two saves in 15 minutes of action. Alex Fawcett (Londonderry, N.H.), J.J. Tinney (Natick, Mass.) and Will Kane (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) all saw action in net for Keene State. Stephen Balcher (Townsend, Mass.) took the loss, stopping eight shots before being replaced by Jack Ganter (Lynnfield, Mass.) in the second half, who made six saves.

The Owls ended the game with an edge in shots (49-18) and face offs (23-34). Matthew Lemke (Agawam, Mass.) led both teams with 15 groundballs.
