Buccaneers Sail Past Vikings 20-5

SALEM ,Mass. -- Benjamin Avakin's (Bourne, Mass.) four goals and assist led the Mass Maritime Buccaneers to a 20-5 win against the Salem State Vikings in a non-conference game on Tuesday night at Alumni Field. Mass Maritime goes to 3-2 on the season while the Vikings fall to 1-3 on the year.

Spencer Jones (Hyannis, Mass.) - 3 goals, Trey Guerrini (Foxborough, Mass.) - 3 goals, Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass.) - 2 goals, Andrew Franks (North Falmouth, Mass.) - 2 goals, Alexandre Lucas (Walpole, Mass.) - 2 goals, Sager Florio (Andover, Mass.) - 2 goals, Michael Sharry (Braintree, Mass.) - 1 goal and Peter Raei (Boston, Mass.) - 1 goal all scored for Mass Maritime.

Zach Royal (Abington, Mass.), Anthony Dalbon (Ashburnham, Mass.), Nick Quirk (Fitchburg, Mass), Tyler Morris (Billerica, Mass.) and Dan McLaughlin (Boston, Mass.) all scored for Salem State.

The Buccaneers stormed out to an early lead with Avakin's two goals in the first quarter leading the way. The first goal occurred at 3:02 and the second one came with a minute left in the quarter giving the Buccaneers a 4-0 lead.

Mass Maritime added four more goal in the second and led 8-0 at the end of the half. Avakian, Guerrini and Jones each scored two goals for the Buccaneers in the first half.

In the first 17 seconds of the third quarter, Kyle Henry (Attleboro, Mass.) won the faceoff and passed it to Dan McLaughlin (Boston, Mass.) to put the Vikings on the board.

However, Mass Maritime never lost control, scoring six goals in each of the third and fourth quarters to win comfortably.

Henry finished the game with nine ground balls for the Vikings which was a game-high.  

Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.) got the win while saving five shots. Matthew Pierson (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Samuel Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) each had two saves for Mass Maritime.

Stephen Balcher (Townsend, Mass.) took the loss while allowing 14 goals and saving 10 shots. Jack Ganter (Lynnfield, Mass.) allowed six goals and saved six shots in relief.
