Beacons Triumph 11-3 Over Vikings

BOSTON -- Nick Quirk (Fitchburg, Mass.) scored two goals and Zach Persson (Danvers, Mass.) tallied another, but it was not enough as UMass Boston defeated Salem State in a Little East contest on Wednesday evening. The Vikings are now 3-11 and 0-6 in conference while the Beacons improve to 8-7, 3-3.

Leading 2-1 after oned period, the Beacons gained some breathing room heading into the halftime break, as they outscored the Vikings 5-2 in the second, with five different players finding the back of the net.

In the third quarter, a lone goal by Clay Arnold (Syracuse, N.Y.) was all the Beacons needed to keep their momentum going.

The fourth quarter would seal the Beacons victory as they scored three more goals to cap-off a 7-0 run by UMB's attack. Ned Parker (Stafford, Va.), Arnold, and Jack O'Brien (East Longmeadow, Mass.) each found the back of the cage as UMB battled through the rain over the final 10 plus minutes.

Arnold capped-off the night with four goals and an assist, while sophomore Ned Parker continued his hot streak with another hat trick, his fourth in the last five games. Twin brother Kroy Arnold (Syracuse, N.Y.) tallied a pair of goals to help earn the senior day victory.

Despite not having the Beacons defenseman in Jack Dillon (Barrington, R.I.) on the field, UMB's backline held strong all night as they caused a season-high 18 turnovers. Matt Murphy (Watertown, Mass.) had a huge day as he registered six CT's to go along with a game-high eight ground balls. Kroy finished second with seven ground balls, while Clay combined for three caused turnovers and four GB's.

Between the pipes Alex Fawcett (Londonderry, N.H.) improved to 5-4 after making just one save in the win.

Wednesday's contest could have been a rout in favor of UMB, but Salem State's Chris Schaub (Brewster, N.Y.) did everything in his power to limit the scoring opportunities. The senior captain made a total of 19 stops, including six in the first quarter to keep the deficit at just one at the time.
