Salem State Clips Worcester State in Season Finale

WORCESTER, Mass. --  James Tatro and Luke Day each tallied two goals apiece as Salem State finished the regular season with a 6-4 victory over Worcester State on Saturday evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play. The Vikings' who are 18-6 and 14-4 in conference produced their best record since winning 22 games in 2016. Salem State, which ended the season on a seven-game winning streak, is 13-2 since the beginning of the calender year. The Lancers slip to 11-12-2 and 8-8-2 in the MASCAC.  

How it Happened:

  • Worcester State jumped in front 1-0 just :55 seconds into the game on a goal by Shane Prifrel. 
  • Day and Tarto answered for Salem State less than 1:30 apart to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.
  • Brigham Neuhold evened the game for the Lancers before Keagan O'Donoghue put Salem State back on top, 3-2 with less than three minutes left in the first.
  • Cam Quigley and Stirling Nash provided the only scoring in the second period as Worcester State carried a 4-3 lead into the third. 
  • The game entered the final three minutes with the Lancers clinging to a one-goal lead.
  • However, Day and Tatro teamed up, scoring back-to back goals just over :50 seconds apart putting Salem State ahead 5-4.
  • Landyn Greatorex then iced the game with an empty-netter with :16 second left.

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Will Nepveu improved his record to 16-5 making 27 saves. 
  • Tatro had two goals and an assist. 
  • Greatorex finished with a goal and an assist.
  • Salem State took both games from Worcester State, winning the first game 9-3 on January 23.
