Vikings Shutout Lancers 3-0

SALEM, Mass. - Michael Shippee's (Seattle, Wash.) two-goal performance and Sean Cleary's (Barnstable, Mass) 47 saves helped the Salem State Vikings shutout the Worcester State Lancers 3-0 on Thursday night at Richard H. Rockett Arena in conference action. The Vikings improve to 2-4-2 on the season and 2-3 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC). Worcester State drops to 4-4-1 on the year and 3-2 in the MASCAC.

With 12:02 left in the first period, Connor Wooley (Poghquag, NY) charged up the ice with the puck and found Shippee trailing. Shippee took a shot and scored into the top of the net to put the Vikings ahead 1-0.

Later in the period, Shippee scored his second goal of the game by aiming the puck into the top far corner to put Salem State on top 2-0 with 6:28 remaining.

In the second period, Worcester State's Kevin Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) broke in alone and took a high shot, but Cleary calmly caught the puck to keep the Lancers scoreless.

In the third period, the Vikings were down two players due to penalties on Spencer DeRidder (Rochester, NY) and Brandon Wolfe (Granger, Ind.) for hooking and tripping. However, Salem State survived Worcester State's power play by keeping the puck out of their zone.

The Lancers pulled goalie Josh Reinstein (Woodland Hills, Calif.) with less than two minutes remaining to create more scoring opportunities. Salem State's Callum Hofford (Woodbridge, ONT) made them pay, shooting the puck from behind both blue lines to secure the win.

Reinstein took the loss and finished with two goals allowed and 20 saves. Cleary earned the win  and allowed no goals and saved 47 shots.
