Salem State's Third Period Rally Produces 3-3 Tie With Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine –  Salem State scored three times in the third period to erase a 3-0 deficit as the Vikings tied Southern Maine 3-3, at USM Ice Arena on Tuesday evening. Salem State is now 1-4- on the year while The Huskies go to 2-5-1

A tightly played first period led to Southern Maine taking a 2-0 second period lead. Derek Tillotson converted a power play goal before Cody Braga made it 2-0 at 15:58 of the second.

Oskar Bjurstrom's shorthanded goal pushed the lead to 3-0 with 18:58 remaining in the third. However, Derek Scoggins answered with a power play goal, pulling the Vikings to within 3-1. Billy McGwin's power play score made it a one-goal game 4:17 into the final period. With just over a minute remaining in regulation, Joe Smith scored the equalizer, to cap the comeback and send the game to overtime.

Neither team found the back of the net in extra time, with each team only registering a shot on net. Sean Cleary made 25 saves for Salem State while his counterpart Anthony D'Aloisio stopped 28 shots.
