2018-19 Men's Basketball Preview

Head coach Chris Harvey will enter his 12th season in 2018-2019 after finishing 22-4 last year and 12-0 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), claiming the regular season title. The Vikings were upset by fourth seed Fitchburg State 90-81 in overtime in the semifinals of the 2017-18 MASCAC Tournament.

2018-2019 Outlook

The Vikings' 22-4 record was their best record since the 2006-2007 season (24-3). Salem State will concentrate on daily improvement and building trust with their teammates.

Key Players

2017-18 All-MASCAC -Second Team - Sean Bryan (Lowell, Mass.) averaged 12 ppg. 5.6 rpg. and 3.2 apg. last season and is entering his junior year as a legitimate "Player of the Year candidate", said coach Harvey.

Tyreik McCauley (West Springfield, Mass.) -- 11.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in 24 starts  in 2017-18 will be relied upon to provide leadership and consistency on both ends of the floor.

Newcomers

Freshmen Fern Berard (Malden, MA) and Chris Macdonald (Malden Catholic) will be joining the team.

Coach's Take

"This group knows that last year's 22-4 has zero bearing on the 2018-2019 season. Improvement for 2018-2019 will be to build trust and infusion of young talent maturing as soon as possible. We are most excited to see this young group grow and build their own identity. The 2018-2019 Vikings should be a fast-paced attacking team on both ends of the floor."

First Game

The Salem State men's basketball team will open up their season facing Keene State on the road on November 10th at 5:30 p.m.
