Castleton Shuts Out Salem State 8-0

CASTLETON, Vt. -- Salem State was limited to just five shots on goal as Castleton picked up an 8-0 win on Wednesday evening in Little East Conference action at Dave Wolk Stadium. The Vikings (9-7, 5-6 LEC) were outmatched as Gabriella Hunt led the way for the Spartans (9-6, 7-3 LEC) as she scored four goals and added one assist. 

The scoring started for the Spartans at the 6:38 mark of the first quarter as Raven Payne tipped one into the back of the net off of a pass from Hunt. Payne, who has three goals on the season, has scored a goal in back-to-back games for the first time in her career. 

Loretta Blakeney would double the Spartans' lead as she maneuvered through the Vikings' defense to score her 10th goal of the season. Blakeney would also tally three assists and accumulated five points on the game.

Hunt got on the scoresheet at the 24:53 mark of the second quarter as she scored off of a Kaitlin Bardellini pass. Hunt quickly added her second of the game around four minutes later to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

Allison Lowell would score the only goal for the Spartans in the third quarter as she tallied her sixth goal of the season.

Megan Ryan joined the action at the start of the fourth quarter as she scored from the top of the striking circle. Ryan scored her second goal of the season which tied a career high. She scored two goals in 20 games in the 2018-19 season.  

Hunt continued to be a force for the Spartans offensively as she tallied two more goals in the fourth quarter. 

The Spartans outshot the Vikings 37-9 with 23 shots being on goal. 

Goaltender Tashia Pashby-Rockwood started the game and earned the win for the Spartans as she collected two saves through three quarters of action. With the lead intact, Hope Brown entered the game in the fourth quarter and collected two saves. Kelli McCarthy had 14 saves in net for the Vikings.
