Vikings Sail Past Beavers

SALEM, Mass. - Casie Curtin's (Wrentham, Mass.) two goals helped the Salem State Vikings to a 3-1 win over the UMaine Farmington Beavers on Tuesday at Alumni Field on Tuesday afternoon. Salem State improves to 2-1 on the season and the Beavers fall to 0-4 on the year.  Jillian Danton (Arlington, Mass.) added her first score of the year for Salem State while Alex Bessey (Jay, Maine) scored a goal for UMaine Farmington.

Salem State jumped on top in the first when Allison Couillard (Tewksbury, Mass.) found Curtin, who drilled a shot from five yards out, to put the Vikings on top 1-0 in the 10th minute.

Melanie Mason (Beverly, Mass.) and Mikayla Mason (Beverly, Mass.) set up the next Vikings' goal with a give and go as Melanie Mason found a wide open Danton for Salem State's second score six minutes into the second quarter.

Curtin scored her second goal of the half right before halftime extending the Viking advantage to 3-0.

Kelli McCarthy (Foxborough, Mass.) made some key saves to protect Salem State's three-goal lead including an incredible, diving save from Abby Pomerleau's (Saco, Maine) attempt at a wide-open net.

Bessey added a third period goal to break the shutout as the Beavers had ample opportunities to cut into the deficit as they took six corners, but they couldn't convert those chances into goals.

McCarthy finished with nine saves and one goal allowed for the Vikings while Katelyn Rouleau (Freeport, Maine) made two saves and allowed three goals for the Beavers.
