Kelli McCarthy Named Little East Goalkeeper of the Week

Little East Field Hockey Athletes of the Week: September 2, 2019  

 

Offensive Player of the Week

Morgan Matthews (Western Connecticut) – Senior - Forward - Bethel, Conn.
Matthews tallied two goals, both-game-winners, and assisted on another as the Colonials opened their 2019 season with a 2-0 ledger. She scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win against Ramapo before burying the game-winner 9:42 into overtime to defeat William Paterson, 3-2. She was credited with an assist on WestConn's first goal against the Pioneers.

Defensive Player of the Week

Sarah Bjorn (Worcester State) - Senior - Defense - Holden, Mass.
Bjorn looked sharp in her first two games in a Lancer uniform over the weekend. The senior anchored a Worcester State defense that recorded two shutouts and only allowed two shots on target over the two-game stretch. The Lancers opened their 2019 campaign with a 4-0 win over Anna Maria before downing Clark 1-0.

Goalkeeper of the Week

Kelli McCarthy (Salem State) - Sophomore - Foxborough, Mass.
McCarthy made 13 saves in Salem State's 2-1 season-opening victory over Gordon Friday. It was the Vikings' only game of the week.

Rookie of the Week

Sophia Sousa, Fitchburg St. (Fr, F - Dartmouth, Mass.)
Sousa netted her first collegiate tally for the Falcons in a 3-1 setback to New England College Friday.
