2019 Field Hockey Preview

SALEM, MASS. – Stephanie Rouse enters her fifth season as the head coach of the Salem State field hockey team. The Vikings, who stumbled to a winless season a year ago, are resolved to right the ship and lay the foundation for future success in 2019. Rouse is optimistic her returning veterans and talented incoming class can string together a few victories, which will go a long way toward building confidence within the team. "Although our team is young, we have very strong players throughout our lineup. I looking forward to watching this motivated group play this season.

IMPACT PLAYERS

Captain Casie Curtin (Wrentham, Mass.) and Jilian Danton (Arlington, Mass.), who both tied for the team-lead in points in 2018 are back to lead the offense. Katherine Crane (Arlington, Mass.) – 14 starts and goalie Kelli McCarthy (Foxborough, Mass.) – six starts - will help immensely on defense as Salem State looks to rebuild the back line. Second-year player Allie Couillard (Tewksbury, Mass.) will lead the midfield line, while Kaylan Harkins (Halifax, Mass.) will pair with Crane to complement the defense.

A trio if newcomers, all from Beverly, will be counted on re-establish the program as Salem State looks to reviatalize its offense. Marissa Laganas is expected to contribute at center midfield, while twins Melanie and Mikayla Mason twins, will be a strong force on offense.

 COACH'S TAKE 

"We have a strong mindset to improve our play. We're also so excited to bring on board Salem State alum, Karen Atkinson, into our Assistant Coach role. Karen brings great energy, knowledge and expertise to our program, coaching in various roles along the North Shore."

Salem State travels to Gordon for their season opener on Friday, August 30 at 4:00 PM.
