Vikings Fall to Becker College 3-2 in Overtime

SALEM, Mass. Amy Cooper (Monument, Colo.) scored with less than six minutes remaining in overtime to lift Becker to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Salem State at Alumni Field on Wednesday evening. The Hawks improve to 2-1 on the year while the Vikings slide to 0-3.

Cooper took a feed from Kylian Kelly (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and laced a shot passed keeper Kelli McCarthy (Foxborough, Mass.) for the game-winner.

The Vikings got off to a quick start with Alyssa Drouin (Methuen, Mass.) scoring a goal in the first 24 seconds of the game. However, Becker dominated possession for the remainder of the half outshooting Salem State 10-2 in the first half. Emily Iacovelli (Northbridge, Mass.) knotted the game for the Hawks in the 24th minute before Katherine Bernier (Dudley, Mass.) put Becker ahead off a corner attempt with one second remaining before halftime.

McCarthy kept the Vikings in the game making several outstanding saves to keep the deficit at one goal. The Hawks continued to pressure Salem State's defense taking 10 corners in the half to just three for the Vikings. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Drouin netted her second of the game, receiving a pass from Casie Curtin (Wrentham, Mass.) who knocked in the game-tying goal from three yards out.

Both teams had prime opportunities to end the game in the first overtime but both goalies made outstanding saves. Only one shot was attempted in the second overtime which was Cooper's game-winner.

McCarthy made nine saves in the loss while Baileigh Griese (Woodstock, N.Y.) stopped three shots. The Hawks finished with 20 corner attempts and outshot Salem State 13-6 for the game.
