
Bears Hand Vikings First Tournament Loss
Bridgewater, Mass. -- Trey Yesu allowed three runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings to help lead No. 1 seed Bridgewater State to a 5-4 MASCAC Baseball Tournament victory over No. 5 seed Salem State at Alumni Park on Thursday. The Bears (27-12) advance and will face the winner between No. 2 Mass Maritime and No. 6 Framiningham State while the Vikings will face the loser at 10:00 am tomorrow at Mass Maritime.
Chase Beach threw a scoreless ninth to pick up the save for Bridgewater State. Kevin Lindsay went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored.
Salem State starter Aidan Carabello allowed three first inning runs before being replaced by Matt Walling. Walling went eight innings and gave up a pair of runs on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk.
Owen Duggan was 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBI.
How It Happened
- A bases loaded walk to Selander in the first scored the first run of the game for the Bears. Ryan Flaherty's base hit and a fielding error by the second baseman made it 3-0.
- Scott Emerson's RBI single up the middle gave Bridgewater State a 4-0 lead in the second before Brendan Flaven made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly to left.
- Owen Duggan's two-run home run in the third drew Salem State to within 5-2.
- Nolan Currier's RBI double in the fourth then made it a 5-3 game.
- Yabdriel Gonzalez added an RBI fielder's choice in the eighth, but Salem State could not add the equalizer as Beach retired the side in the ninth with two strikeouts.
