Salem State Wins Backend of Doubleheader

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Salem State and Framingham State each won a game apiece on Monday in MASCAC doubleheader action from Bowditch Field. The Vikings, behind the pitching performance of Matt Walling took game two, 5-4 over the Rams after Framingham State won the opener, 7-1. Salem State is now 13-10 and 6-5 in league play while the Rams now stand at 7-12 and 5-3.

Walling pitched three scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory, allowing three hits with two strikeouts. Jake Boucher picked up his second save, as he did not allow a hit in two innings of work, finishing with three strikeouts. Owen Duggan went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.  

Game One

Vincent LoGuidice pitched six innings, allowing just a run on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts to lead the Rams to a 7-1 victory. Jeancarlos Espinal went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs, while Daniel Robichaud collected two hits and two RBI. Robichaud's two-run single in the fourth gave Framingham State a 2-0 lead. Boucher cut the lead in half in the fifth with a base hit to left, but Espinal chased starter Bobby Jellison with an RBI single in the fifth. Jellison, was charged with three runs on seven hits with a walk and strikeout in the loss. The Rams broke the game open in the sixth, scoring four times off reliever Kyle Banche with Ryan Boyle delivering a two-run single with the bases loaded. Antonio Belgrove and Boucher each collected two hits apiece for Salem State as the Vikings were held without an extra-base hit in the game.

Game Two

Salem State built a 2-0 first inning lead off starter Joshua Sunderland as Duggan and Nolan Currier each delivered RBI singles. An RBI groundout by Espinal in the bottom of the first made the score 2-1 in favor of Salem State. Vikings' starter Jake Usenia struggled in the second as Framingham State plated three runs, highlighted by a two-run single to center by Lucas Basile. Usenia was charged with four runs in 1.1 innings or work despite only allowing one hit. A Dylan Adamson triple and Mark Smith groundout tied the game at 4-apiece in the fourth. Salem State pulled ahead in the sixth as Duggan drove in the go-ahead run after getting hit with the bases loaded. Walling and Boucher did the rest, not allowing a run, combining for 5.2 innings of scoreless relief. Rams's starter Sunderland took the loss, going 5.1 innings after allowing 10 hits and five runs with two strikeouts. Adamson finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for the Vikings. Basile went 2-for-4 with two RBI for Framingham State.
