Salem State Completes Spring Trip 6-2

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Salem State completed their spring trip with a pair of wins to finish 6-2 at the Ripken Experience. The Vikings lost to Mount Aloysius 8-7 and Keene State 13-1 before picking up back-to-back wins against McDaniel 10-6 & 10-9 in extra innings.

Jake Boucher went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI while Edward Field had a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Salem State held a 6-3 lead in the ninth, but a five-run inning by the Mounties propelled Mount Aloysius to a come-from-behind victory. Tyler Suder and Troy Emert both had run-scoring doubles while Jeremy Iellimo provided a two-run double in the comeback. The Owls used three pitchers to silence the Salem State bats in a twelve-run victory. Brahiam Ortega was the lone bright spot, going 2-for-4 on the day. Dean Ruzich picked up the win pitching four-innings of one-hit ball, with four strikeouts. 

The Vikings got back in the win column against the Green Terror, scoring eight runs over the final three innings to to win going away. Zach Piroh and Jack Sefrino each had three hits and two RBI with Piroh connecting for his third home run of the season. Jake Boucher went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored while Tim Catalano rapped out three hits with an RBI. Greg Gentile earned the win in relief, going 1.1 innings and allowing two hits and a run with three strikeouts.  

Traverse Briana had five RBI in the second win over McDaniel, including a two-run home run and game-winning sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the 10th. Catalano produced a 3-for-5 day at the plate while Piroh launched a two-run home run in the first inning, helping Salem State to a 5-0 early lead. McDaniel scored two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth before tying the game in the game with two out in the ninth. The Green Terror took the lead, 9-8 in the top of the tenth on an error, but an error with the bases loaded tied the game before Briana ended the contest with a sacrifice fly to center. Brad Feeder picked up the win going 0.2 innings and not allowing a hit or run with one walk issued.
