Salem State Opens Spring Trip With Pair of Wins

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Salem State swept Albertus Magnus 9-1 and 7-2 in a doubleheader at Ripken Experience Crosley Field to open their spring trip 2-0. The Vikings (3-2) hit four home runs on the day, including two by Traverse Briana in a game two victory. Starting pitchers Jack Sefrino and Brock Pare each picked up victories to even their records at 1-1.

Christian Burt went 3-for-3 in a 9-1 game one win, connecting for his first home run of the year to lead-off the game. Zach Piroh then added a second run in the first with an RBI double. Wilbur Rosario Morel added a solo shot in the second before Burt made the score 4-0 with an RBI double. Salem State plated four runs in the fifth on a passed ball and two-run double by Bobby Jellison. Leading 8-1, Burt added a a sacrifice fly in the sixth for his third RBI of the game. Pare went 5.2 innings, allowing one run on a solo home run in the fourth, and scattered three hits while finishing with six strikeouts.  

Briana went 2-for-4 in game two, with two home runs, accounting for five of Salem State's runs in the Vikings' 7-2. Brianna had a three-run shot in the third and followed up with a two-run clout in the fifth, staking Salem State to a 5-0 lead. Brahiam Ortega and Jake Boucher provided two more runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly and RBI double respectively. Sefrino pitched six scoreless innings of one-hit ball in the win, while striking out nine with two walks.
