Salem Splits Doubleheader With Husson

Northborough, Mass. -- Salem State split its doubleheader with Husson at the New England Baseball Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings won game one, 8-0 behind a strong pitching performace by Jimmy Burton, who pitched six shutout innings to earn the win. Madoc Fisher provided the offense with a double and his first home run of the year. The Eagles came back to take game two, 11-7, scoring eight runs in the sixth inning to win their first game of the year. 

Burton allowed just three hits with four strikeouts in six innings of work in game one. The righty walked just one batter as Salem State cruised to an 8-0 victory. Fisher jump staretd the offense with a solo home run in the first and later added a two-run double, part of a seven-run fourth inning as the Vikings pulled away. Fisher ended the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Shawn Rebello collected the only other multi-hit game for Salem State, which banged out 10 hits. Dylan McCormick pitched a scoreless seventh for Salem State. Jesse Colford took the loss for the Eagles, surrendering eight runs - four earned - on nine hits. 

The Eagles came back to win game two, breaking open a 3-3 game in the sixth with eight runs, highlighted by a grand slam from Evan Holzworth. The Vikings scored the first two runs of the  game on an RBI triple by Rebello and a single by Zach PirohJack Sefrino started the game for the Vikings, going 4.1 innings and allowing three runs -- two earned -- with five strikeouts and a pair of walks. Salem State used five pitchers with Josh Bell earning the loss, giving up two runs on a hit and three walks in 0.2 innings. 

Trailing, 11-4 the Vikings plated three runs in the seventh, on singles by Jake Boucher and Brett MoleaTim Catalano added a sacrifice fly to plate the final run. Holzworth finished 1-for-2 with a home run, a run scored and fve RBI for the Eagles. David LeBlanc went 4-for-5 with a double and triple for Husson.
