Worcester State Posts 7-2 Victory Over Salem State on Senior Day

SALEM, Mass. - Michael Ferrara (Easton, Mass.) went 2-for-5, with two RBIs, and one run scored to lift the Worcestor State Lancers to a 7-2 win over the Salem State Vikings on "Senior Day" on Friday. The Lancers improve to 20-17 overall and 11-8 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) while the Vikings slip to 16-18 on the season and 9-10 in the MASCAC. 

Senior's Andrew McLaughlin (Peabody, Mass.), Brendan Greene (Winchester, Mass.), Stephen Keskinidis (Stoneham, Mass.), Zac Duval (Middleton, Mass.), Matt Marquez (Salem, Mass.), Luke Brennan (Worcester, Mass.) Brock Riley (Lowell, Mass.), and James Baxter (Winthrop, Mass.) were all honored before the game for their commitment and dedication to the program.

Worcester State scored first when Kevin Larken (Rocky Hill, Conn.) singled to left field in the top of the second. Sam Allen (Springfield, Mass.) followed with an RBI-double as the Lancers took a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Worcester State had two on for Michael Ferrara (Easton, Mass.), who doubled, bringing in both runners for a 3-0 lead. Seth Leslie (Phillipston, Mass.) then hit a line drive to Greene, but he couldn't handle it and Ferrara reached home extending the Lancers' lead to 4-0.

Worcester State loaded the bases on three errors in the top of the fourth inning. McLaughlin unleashed a wild pitch, scoring Michael Chaves Jr. (Hudson, Mass.)  from third as the Lancers led 5-0. Ferrara reached home on another error and Larkin hit an RBI-single for a 7-0 Worcetser State lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, with Traverse Briana (Lynn, Mass.) on second base, Madoc Fisher (Wayne, NJ) tripled to deep left field. Briana scored and the Vikings trailed 7-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, with one out Shawn Rebello (Bellingham, Mass.) grounded out, bringing home Briana, who made it 7-2. 

PJ Walsh (Bridgewater, Mass.) earned the win, going all nine innings while allowing two runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Salem State's McLaughlin took the loss (7-1) allowing three earned runs with two strikeouts in a complete game.
