Women’s Ice Hockey Drops Home Matchup with Salem St., 2-1

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's ice hockey team fell to Salem St. by a final of 2-1 on Friday night at Conway Arena. The loss was the first of the season for the Raiders and now hold a 2-1-0 record, with the Vikings taking their first victory to sit at 1-2-0 on the year.

Despite the visitors putting 16 shots on target in the opening 20 minutes, reigning Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) Goaltender of the Week, Rachel Symmes, was up to the task on each try to keep the game scoreless at the first intermission.

Rivier would be the first to break the scoring drought 8:27 into the second period, as Briana Paxson picked off an errant Vikings pass in the offensive zone and fired a shot low glove side past Kaia Hollingsworth to put the Raiders up 1-0.

Just 3:11 later, Celeste Scoppettuolo would tie things up for Salem St. on the powerplay as she fired home a rebound in front of the net to even the score.

Jessica Robert scored the game-winning goal with 9:33 remaining in the third as Rivier failed to clear the defensive zone and the senior made no mistake with the loose puck, beating Symmes to send the Vikings past the Raiders.

Salem St. went 1-for-3 on the powerplay while Rivier couldn't convert on three extra-player tries.

The Vikings doubled the Raiders in shots, 44-22.

Rivier will head to Rockett Arena to finish the weekend home-and-home with Salem St. on Saturday, Nov. 4 with puck drop set for 3:00 p.m.
