Worcester, MA-The Worcester State Lancers (10-6, 8-1 MASCAC) faced off against the Salem State Vikings (6-9, 4-5 MASCAC) in a crucial conference matchup with the Lancers playing to secure sole possesion of the MASCAC Regular Season Championship having already clinched the one seed and the first round bye in the playoffs..

Tonight's game is Senior Night where a pre-game ceremony was held in honor of Zoe Athanasopoulos (Hopedale, Mass.), Grace Adams (Leominster, Mass.), Emma Thomson (Agawam, Mass.), and Sam Gastonguay (Ashburnham, Mass.).

RECAP:

Junior midfielder Sophia Cavallo (Northborough, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season just 2:06 into the contest to put her team up 1-0 after a slotted pass by Athanasopoulos was dished across the face of the cage.. It would be the only goal scored in the first half by both teams it what was a hottly contested battle.

Athanasopoulos scored in her final regular season game at Coughlin Field to put the Lancers up 2-0 with roughly two minutes remaining in the third period off a battted ball that was tipped off a stick in the cirle that sailed perfectly onto the waiting stick. She ended her night with six shots on goal.

Allison Keenan (Marlborough, Mass.) ended the scoring for Worcester when she netted a goal to put her side up 3-0 with six minutes to go in the contest off a pooor clear by the Vikings sent the clearing pass onto the stick of Adams who quickly sent the ball back into the circle where a tipped shot saw the ball slipping under the defensive pressure for goal number three on the day.  

Senior goalie Sam Gastonguay (Ashburnham, Mass.) recorded six saves en route to the victory.

With the win, the Lancers final regular season recorded would finish at (11-6, 9-1 MASCAC), as Salem St. ends their season with a record of (6-10, 4-6 MASCAC).

The next game for the Lancers will be a playoff matchup on Friday, November 3rd at 6 p.m. against a team to be named later.
