Women’s Ice Hockey Bounces Back with 4-2 Victory Over Salem St.

SALEM, Mass. – The Rivier women's ice hockey team salvaged a split of the weekend series with Salem St., earning a 4-2 win at Rockett Arena on Saturday evening. The Raiders continued their best start in program history as they improved to 3-1-0 (0-0-0 ECHA). With the loss, the Vikings now sit at 1-3 (0-0 NEHC).

Molly Dukesherer finally opened the scoring with less than five minutes to play in the second period, collecting the puck at the right point and firing it in for the powerplay goal to put Rivier up 1-0.

There would be a combined five goals in the final 20 minutes of regulation, beginning with the Vikings' Catherine Lawrence evening the score at 1-1 in the opening 1:20 of the frame.

Nearly nine minutes later, Briana Paxson would put Riv back on top on an unassisted tally.

Salem St.'s Meghan Azzato would once again level the score just 43 seconds later to knot things up at 2-2.

Reigning Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) Rookie of the Week, Rebecca McKelvey, would capitalize on another Rivier powerplay, as she buried a wrist shot from the slot to once again put the visitors in front.

Tia Picardi would bury an empty net goal, her first collegiate marker, in the final 30 seconds to put the game out of reach.

Rachel Symmes, the reigning ECHA Goaltender of the Week, made 24 saves in her third victory of the season. Rivier outshot the Vikings, 30-26, in the triumph. Rivier managed to go 2-for-5 on the powerplay, while killing off Salem St.'s only extra-player opportunity.

The Raiders will return to home ice on Tuesday, Nov. 7 as they welcome Anna Maria to Conway Arena for their first ECHA tilt of the season, with puck drop set for 8:10 p.m.
