Stephen Stapleton rewrote the Salem State College Baseball record book during his career as a right handed pitcher. A native of Milford and resident of Brookline, he was a three time All New England performer who earned All American honors his senior season.

Steve established single season pitching records at SSC for victories (10), saves (8), appearances(16), complete games (9), games started (11), and innings pitched (8.1.1). The career mound records he holds at the college are for wins (24), saves (13), strikeouts (234), innings pitched (237), appearances (50), and complete games (16).

Steve was selected Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) player of the year and co-recipient of the SSC’s Male Presidents Cup award in his senior year. He holds the unique distinction of being the only SSC player to be selected to the Fenway Park College All Star game three times. He posted a 9-1 win/loss mark with three saves in 1994 while helping lead SSC to the MASCAC championship, NCAA playoffs and a 25-5 record.

During the summer prior to his senior year, Steve played for Wareham of the prestigious Cape Cod League, which is sudsidized by Major League Baseball. He compiled an impressive 8-1 record and 1.59 earned run average for the Gatemen, who were the Western Division champions. He was named a starter for the CCL’s All Star game.
